Our staffed 24/7 shelter is in a confidential residential neighborhood with fifteen bedrooms, 2 for families of 3-5, multiple bathrooms, a laundry room, a kitchen, a dining room, a community room, and a large backyard with a playground. Wheather you are an individual or a family, our team is here to assist you in any way we can!
What to Expect at the Empowerment, Healing, and Wellness Center (EHWC)
From the time you enter our doors at our Washington Ave. building, our team is ready to help in any way we can. A brief assessment is done before you are transported to the center. Once they arrive at the EHWC, the team will get you comfortable while going over some paperwork. Once everything is completed in the office, you will be brought to your room where you can find clean linens, and the team will assist with providing necessities like towels and hygiene products, and a handbook with helpful information like important phone numbers and what services are available to you as part of the YWCA.
Quick Facts About the EHWC for You
- All of the shelter services are free. This includes individual counseling, support groups, case management, and advocacy.
- YWCA NENY provides the food necessary for all residents to prepare nutritious meals
- Our team will provide items to meet your basic living needs during your stay with us. This includes but is not limited to a toothbrush, hygiene products, towels, bedding, etc.
- Our team can assist with questions you may have or referrals that you may need at any time
What Happens After Shelter?
New York State regulations allow you to stay at our shelter for up to 90 days. Our Housing Specialists and Case Managers will work with you to identify a plan that will help you transition out of shelter into safe and affordable housing.
If you are not able to afford rent without assistance, our team can help you apply for the various subsidized housing options available in Schenectady or neighboring counties.
